POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY DEMOCRATS  WORKING FOR A BETTER OKLAHOMA

We've  been very busy this fall.  The week after the fair we participated in the Tecumseh Frontier Days Parade.  Our entry featured the new banner and several hard working Democrats handing out American Flags to the parade watchers.

At the Frontier Days parade, we learned we actually needed a few more workers and flags to accommodate this popular activity.

Thanks to Cathy Goodine's excellent networking, we  did just that for the Veteran's Parade in Shawnee, on Nov 7th. Seven Democrats volunteered to hand out the flags there and we literally blanketed the streets with workers encouraging the crowd to greet the veterans with a waving flag.

Democrats care about veterans and vote for candidates who honor and take care of the veterans who have fought for our freedoms.

The photographer got stuck on only one side of the street though and therefore missed a lot of good photo ops.

We have distributed over 1500 flags since we started giving them out at events. Check out our Event Image section for more photos.

OUR FUTURE WILL BE BUSY

The Central Committee has voted to suspend meetings for the holidays but in the New Year we will start focusing on fundraising so we can support our Democratic canidates and help make them competitive with the Republicans.

Future plans include a spring garage sale and a St Patrick's Eve Irish Fun and Feed.  Music and great food are already being planned and several of the statewide candidates have agreed to come and dish out the vittles.  We will be serving Irish Stew, Potatoe Soup, Irish Soda Bread, green beverages, and homemade Irish desserts.

Starting right now we are going  to start saving cash register receipts from the Fire Lake Grocery Store.  We plan to collect those to help get $100 gift cards for some of our local schools.  Please consider helping us with this project, it's an opportunity to show our local educators that we really do care about children and education.  Give your receipts to any central committee member or better yet come to our breakfast meeting and turn them in there.

2010 Election

The campaign season is heating up and more and more candidates are throwing their hats in the ring.  So far we have two great candidates for Governor.

Jari's website is at http://www.jariaskins.com/

Drew's web site is at http://www.edmondson2010.com/

Both of them would make great governors, but remember they can't win without your help.

Kenneth Corn has announced for Lt. Governor.  He was one of the legislators that spent the night at the capital to call for a special session to find funds to support our senior nutrition centers.

Steve Burrage and Kim Holland were appointed by the Governor to fill the unexpired terms for Auditor and Insurance Commissioner. Both are iminently qualified and have brought respect and integrity back to these offices.   Steve has already announced he will be standing for re election in 2010. We're hoping Ms Holland will do the same.  Check out Steve's web site at https://www.steveburragecpa.com/

Senator Susan Paddock from Ada has recently announced she will be running for State Superintendent of Schools.  She can be contacted at votepaddack@yahoo.com.

Republicans think they own the state now that they control both the House and the Senate. 2010 will either prove them right or wrong. Each and every one of us must work to influence that outcome or the whole state will suffer the consequences.  The plight of the senior nutrition programs is only the beginning if they take over the statewide offices and agencies.
