County Democrats
Get Up, Show Up, & Stand Up!
Because they know that's what it takes to elect Democrats.

We kicked off the campaign season with our new annual event, St Pat's Eve that was full of fun and participation from both Democratic candidates and Democratic voters who filled Tecumseh City Hall.
The evening started off with Mulligan Stew and Irish Soda Bread, followed by a great tribute to Teddy Kennedy by Jim Spurr and an inspirational informative speech by Frosty Troy about the Irish Democrats in McAlester where he grew up and the current state of politics at the state capital.
Young Democrats came out in force to help with the food service and even stayed for the clean up. We found that Democrats working together even have fun doing KP duty.
Joe Freeman introduced the candidates who took their turn at the lectern telling some really good Irish Jokes. Our first annual Blarney Stone award was won by Drew Edmondson candidate for Governor. Drew not only wowed us with a funny Irish tale, he also showed off his singing skills by singing a capella the “Edmondson Can” ditty which he explained was taken with permission from George Cohen's Irish melody Harrigan. also The winner of the award had to be a strong Democrat since the trophy weighed about 15 pounds.
In between, we were also entertained with wonderful Irish dancers, and the always entertaining Lost and Found Band. Good food, good friends, and fun made for a great event.
Statewide candidates, Steve Burrage, Kenneth Corn, Jim Priest, Drew Edmondson, and Lloyd Fields all came out to support our county party and meet with voters. Jari Askins had another committment but she sent Kim Roberts to represent her. Four candidates actually announced their candidacy for office at the event. Billy Coyle and Tom Guild candidates for the Fifth District Congressional Seat announced and two candidates, for the District 27 state house seat also announced. They are Cole Koszara and Chris Odneal.
Guy Goodine took photos of the event for us and several attendees have also sent some in. Check out these great photos at http://pottcountydemocrats.com/StPatsEve.aspx
Our website has all the current candidates that will be on the ballot and their contact information listed for your convenience at http://pottcountydemocrats.com/Candidates.aspx
Now is the time to look them over and start supporting them. This newsletter goes out to over 90 people. If only half of you picked one of the candidates to support and sent them $10 a month by July our county would have sent them $1350.00. Early contributions mean the candidate has a better chance at bringing in more contributions. Our support can and should make a big difference in the kind of campaign they can run.
Ten dollars almost seems like it's so small that it wouldn't even help but Barack Obama won with just that kind of support. Donations from everyday people in small amounts won us the presidency, now we need to work on taking back Oklahoma.
Tragedy in West Virgina

I feel compelled to take personal privilege and write about the recent tragedy in W V.
Much of the so called liberal media has barely mentioned the fact that mines where workers have a strong union have a lot less injuries and deaths. The Massey Corporation had amassed over 2118 safety violations since the year 2000.
